I plan on rolling up “an army of alts” … 1 for each class, which then gives me access to all of the professions (including specializations). Once I can get the client installed (and operational to log into the realm), what I’d want to do is play all 9 alts in parallel, to keep them relatively “even” in leveling.
But above and beyond that, I’d want to go out of my way to gain Faction Reputation with many of the PvE Factions available, mainly for the side benefits … but also so that I can witness “the whole story” that the game has to offer.
On both sides of the divide, this means playing All Three Campaigns …
- Alliance: Night Elves, Dwarves/Gnomes, Humans
- Horde: Orcs/Trolls, Tauren, Forsaken
Throw in some of the “third party” factions (Steamwheedle Cartel, South Seas Pirates, Ravenholdt, etc.) for flavor at the right times and … there will never be a content drought that requires simply grinding to get past.
I’ve noticed in past gameplay that playing All Three Campaigns … from the start … winds up with some pretty respectable returns on investment, even if it does mean that the Road to 60 will be longer. First and foremost, just doing the STARTER AREAS for each of the 3(.5) Factions on each side (Alliance and Horde) yields a surprisingly large windfall of Faction Reputation. It’s a tremendous head start on getting to Honored with your own side’s core Factions, which is where the 10% Vendor Discount kicks in.
Another side effect of doing all those quests for All Three Campaigns means that in the early going (1-10, 11-20) you’ve got a lot less financial pressure, because you’re getting cash and loot rewards from every quest, not to mention plenty of vendor trash. You’ve also got a motivation to go collect Flight Points in different places around the world, which keeps the scenery moving and changing (even if you’re playing the same content multiple times, in parallel, like I’m planning to do).
In my case, I’m in no rush to run my first dungeon, let alone join my first 40-man raid. Instead, I want to be able to relax and PLAY in a way in which the journey is its own reward.
